Myths about hypnosis

Many myths revolve around hypnosis. Most of them are propogated by false and overly dramatic representations in movies or television. Hypnosis is not a form of sleep. One does not lose control in hypnosis. Hypnosis is not a supernatural, magical or mystical state.

Hypnosis – what is it?

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention in which one can intensively get in contact with the subconscious mind. Under hypnosis you have just as much control over your body and your actions as when you are awake. You can stop the hypnosis at any time on your own accord.

Light trance states are often experienced in everyday life, such as when we see an exciting movie, when we are completely immersed in a book, in daydreams or when we are about to fall asleep.

In the context of hypnotherapy, the trance state is intentionally induced and used to change processes in the mind. Hypnotherapy is a recognized psychotherapeutic procedure.

Over 90 percent of our thoughts, feelings and actions are controlled by the subconscious mind, which holds a huge amount of information. We all know this problem: we want to change something, but our subconscious mind defends and blocks our good intentions. How often do we catch ourselves doing what we know is bad for us? Often, instead of trying to change this behavior we reach for the remote control and indulge in the next cigarette or the next piece of cake.

With the logical mind alone, deep-seated emotional patterns of behavior are very difficult to change. With the help of hypnosis, however, one can directly address the unconscious mind without being hindered by the doubts, critical remarks, evaluations and fears of the conscious mind. In doing so, the real causes of the problem can be solved. Personal changes are much easier that way. In a state of trance, it is possible to activate those hidden resources.
